MIAMI SHERIFF IS NOT HAPPY ABOUT GTA 6

The real Miami is already debating how closely it should embrace Rockstar's fictional Vice City!

Grand Theft Auto VI has not even been released yet, and it is already creating a political discussion in the real Miami!
According to reports, Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz has publicly pushed back against the idea of a promotional campaign connecting the real Miami-Dade area with Rockstar's fictional Vice City.

The discussion reportedly started after members of Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's administration explored ways Miami-Dade could take advantage of the massive attention surrounding GTA 6 for tourism and promotional purposes.

Some of the ideas reportedly included "Welcome to Vice City" signs at Miami International Airport, special Vice City branding around the area, themed vehicles and other GTA-inspired promotional elements.

However, there is currently no confirmed partnership with Rockstar Games, and it remains unclear how far these discussions actually went.

MIAMI-DADE SHERIFF PUSHES BACK

According to The Miami Herald, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez issued a joint statement opposing the idea.
Their argument is pretty straightforward.

Grand Theft Auto is a franchise heavily built around crime, robberies, drug trafficking, vehicle theft and violence involving law enforcement. Those are obviously very different from the image Miami-Dade officials have spent decades trying to promote to tourists, businesses and investors.

The sheriff believes the county should focus on promoting the real Miami-Dade rather than associating the area with a fictional version that is primarily known for criminal activity.

BUT THERE IS A BIGGER PICTURE

Despite the concerns from local officials, there is no denying that GTA 6 is an enormous marketing opportunity.
Vice City is heavily inspired by South Florida, and the connection between the fictional game world and the real Miami is already one of the biggest talking points surrounding GTA VI.

A promotional partnership could potentially bring huge attention to the region, especially once the game finally launches.

For a city that is already one of the most recognizable tourist destinations in the world, being connected to the next Grand Theft Auto could create an entirely new wave of interest.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Should the real Miami embrace the Vice City connection and use the GTA 6 hype to promote tourism?
Or does the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office have a point, considering how heavily the GTA franchise focuses on crime and violence?
Would you like to see real Miami fully embrace Vice City when GTA 6 launches?

Vice City is fictional. Miami is not.
