RUMOR: GTA VI IS IN DEVELOPMENT FOR NINTENDO SWITCH 2

An insider report claims Rockstar is preparing a demanding port for Nintendo's next-gen console.

Grand Theft Auto VI is officially scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC version expected at a later date. While fans have come to expect the series to prioritize high-end consoles first, a Nintendo Switch 2 edition seemed highly unlikely given the massive scope of Leonida and the platform's more modest hardware capabilities.

Yet, a massive new rumor suggests that Rockstar Games may be preparing exactly that kind of ambitious port.

THE INSIDER REPORT

According to Nash Weedle, a prominent and reliable source for Nintendo leaks, a GTA VI Nintendo Switch 2 version is currently in development and has been for some time. The insider shared details indicating active work on bringing the massive title to the upcoming portable platform.

If true, this suggests a potential release window in 2027, following the initial PlayStation and Xbox launch.

HOW IS IT TECHNICALLY POSSIBLE?

As the insider claims, the immense technical challenges involved in porting a next-gen sandbox game to the Switch 2 appear to have been overcome, though the exact methods (such as heavy optimization or potential cloud features) remain unclear.

  • Direct Rockstar Supervision - The report states that Rockstar Games is directly overseeing the port rather than handing it off entirely to an external studio.
  • Subcontracted Specialists - Developers experienced in Switch 2 architecture have reportedly been brought in through subcontracting. This external hiring is likely how details about the project managed to surface, bypassing Rockstar's notoriously tight security.

Note: As with all leaks, take this information with a grain of salt until Rockstar Games or Nintendo makes an official announcement.

A handheld version of GTA VI sounds like a dream, but how do you think the Switch 2 will handle the RAGE engine and the massive crowd density of Vice City? Will it be heavily downgraded, or is Nintendo's next console significantly more powerful than we think?

Would you buy a Switch 2 just to play GTA VI on the go? Drop your thoughts below!
