GTA VI: $100 ULTIMATE EDITION OUTPACING BASE GAME PRE-ORDERS

Strauss Zelnick confirms fans are going all-in, plus don't expect any Christmas discounts.

When Take-Two Interactive officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI would carry an $80 price tag for the base game $10 higher than current AAA standard releases many wondered if the price bump would hurt pre-order numbers.

It turns out, fans couldn't care less. In fact, most gamers are skipping the base game entirely and dropping $100 on the Ultimate Edition!

Note: With pre-orders already estimated to have generated over $260 million, Take-Two is holding firm on its premium pricing strategy.

WHAT STRAUSS ZELNICK HAD TO SAY

Speaking to CNBC’s Squawk Pod, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed how pre-orders are currently splitting between the $79.99 Base Game and the $99.99 Ultimate Edition:

"Actually, it is skewing more to the premium edition, but that might be a reflection again of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering."

When pressed about potential holiday or Christmas discounts, Zelnick shut down any hopes of an early price drop. Pointing to GTA V's long-term price preservation, he noted that while retailers can technically adjust their own margins, Take-Two has no intention of discounting the game anytime soon.

WHAT DOES THE $100 ULTIMATE EDITION INCLUDE?

For the extra $20, Rockstar is packing a massive amount of exclusive in-game content for story mode. Here is the full breakdown:

  • Exclusive Vehicles: '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy (stored at Paradise Garage in Watson Bay), '95 Grotti Cheetah sports car, and the gradient pink/blue Shitzu Squalo boat at Washington Beach.
  • Safehouse & Off-Road Upgrades: Dinka Enduro motorcycle, Crest Kayak, and Vapid Ganado Retro Build mods at Jason’s Safehouse.
  • Exclusive Mod Shops: Access to Rideout Customs in Vice City (Donk stylings & interior mods) and One-Eyed Willie’s in Lake Leonida (off-road & hand-painted designs).
  • Classic Car Restoration: Special commissions from local fixer Wyman, featuring 4 Ultimate Edition exclusive project cars to restore.
  • Bonus Arsenal: 'His & Hers' Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers (from the Vercetti Estate), plus custom engraved variants for Jason's Girardi ES9 and Lucia's Klose K17.
  • Gangs & Side Content: PTT Youngin$ Compound raid mission in Southside Vice City to steal exclusive contraband.
  • Cosmetics & Styling: Vice City Styles outfits, Goodtime Gear apparel, access to the Stock 305 streetwear store, Sara’s Unisex Salon hairstyles/makeup, and 50+ exclusive tattoos at Electric Fang Tattoo.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NETFLIX PREMIERE

With analysts estimating pre-order revenue already topping $260 million, all eyes are now on the upcoming Netflix special later this month for the latest trailer and breakdown. Just keep in mind: Rockstar is keeping the total focus on Single-Player for now, so don't expect GTA Online news anytime soon.
