GTA VI: ALL THE WEAPONS WE KNOW SO FAR

Breaking down the confirmed weapons, gunplay mechanics, and customization in Leonida.

One of the elements expected to change most significantly in Grand Theft Auto VI is the gunplay. Rockstar has already shown several scenes with Jason and Lucia using different types of weapons, and official game material now includes specific weapon names.

The most interesting takeaway is that Rockstar seems to be returning to a more realistic and detailed weapon system, placing heavier emphasis on how we carry, use, and customize our firearms.

Important Note: Rockstar has not yet published a full official list of all GTA VI weapons. Therefore, we distinguish below what has been officially presented from what the community has identified in trailers and screenshots.

OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED & SPOTTED WEAPONS

  • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolver - One of the most interesting weapons officially presented by Rockstar. They have published standalone official screenshots of this specific revolver in the GTA VI media section. It perfectly fits the criminal, Florida-inspired aesthetic of Leonida.
  • Pistols & Revolvers - Pistols seem to feature much more variety now. Trailers show various designs, from classic semi-automatics to modern variants. Revolvers also appear to be a distinct category, likely offering different handling and damage compared to modern handguns, making your weapon choice more impactful.
  • SMGs (Submachine Guns) - Compact automatic weapons are returning, heavily featured in close-range situations, store robberies, and vehicle shootouts.
  • Assault & Sniper Rifles - Larger automatic rifles are seen in heavy action sequences, likely split into sub-categories (carbines, tactical, compact). Sniper rifles are also expected to return, potentially with more realistic scopes, zoom levels, and recoil compared to GTA V's arcade style.
  • Shotguns - Essential for a game heavily focused on robberies and close-quarters combat. Expect pump-action, tactical, semi-auto, and potentially double-barrel variants.
  • Melee Weapons & Explosives - Trailers have shown close-combat brawls, hinting at the return of knives, bats, and clubs. High-action explosive scenes also suggest the return of grenades, sticky bombs, and other throwables.

GUNPLAY MECHANICS & CUSTOMIZATION

Weapon Customization & Patterns
This might be the biggest change. Rockstar has already showcased "Personalized Weapon Variants" and confirmed an exclusive "Vintage Vice City Weapon Pattern" (part of the Vintage Vice City Pack). This implies we can customize our weapons with different finishes, patterns, grips, cosmetic modifications, and likely attachments.

In-Vehicle Combat
One of the most exciting details from the trailers is the use of weapons while inside or hanging out of a vehicle. Jason and Lucia can engage in dynamic gunfights during chases, making vehicle combat a much more integral part of heists and escapes.

The New Inventory System & Realism
GTA V allowed you to carry an entire arsenal in a massive weapon wheel. GTA VI seems to push for a more grounded, realistic approach. Rumors and visual cues suggest a limited inventory system where you have to physically choose what to carry (e.g., you can't hide an RPG, a sniper, and 5 rifles in your pocket). Weapons also feature more detailed animations and a more natural presence in the world.

GTA V VS. GTA VI: THE SHIFT

GTA V relied on a massive weapon wheel, carrying multiple heavy weapons simultaneously, strong arcade elements, and eventually Mk II upgrades in Online.

GTA VI seems to focus on specific weapon models, personalized variants, highly detailed weapon designs, immersive animations, a potentially limited inventory, and linking gunplay much closer to the general gameplay rather than feeling like an arcade add-on.

WHAT REMAINS UNANSWERED?

While we know about the Hawk & Little Morgan and personalized variants, many questions remain open until we see pure gameplay:
  • How many weapons will there be in total?
  • Will there be a weapon degradation/cleaning system?
  • Exactly how many weapons can we carry at once?
  • Will Jason and Lucia have different weapon stats or handling animations?
  • Will we be able to conceal weapons on our bodies?
  • Will there be weapon storage in our safehouses or vehicle trunks?

JOIN THE DISCUSSION

The weapon system in GTA VI seems designed to make your firearms feel like a part of your character's identity, rather than just tools you cycle through.

Which weapon do you want to see return the most from previous GTA games?
